Finally we have the Jim Montepulciano back! Fruit is sourced from a lovely vineyard near Leasingham. 2022 was an amazing year for Clare Valley and this Montepulciano is no exception. Harvested and brought to the winery to ferment with a wild start in small, one tonne fermenters. Hand plunged and left on skins for 3 weeks. Pressed and then allowed to mature in 3rd season French oak barrels.
Montepulciano is such a diverse variety that can be created in so many beautiful ways. This wine has taken time and hasn’t been rushed, so it should be savoured. The aromatics are heady with dark cherries, dried herbs, chinotto and liquorice, while the palate is rich, slippery and composed with black cherries and olives, red earth and 5-spice with a hint of sour boysenberries. Way to easy to drink…..
