2023 Ken Primitivo

Story

This dry grown, Primitivo fruit is sourced from the Jack and Wills vineyard in Watervale (Ngadjuri Land). Hand picked based on a day where the fruit was delicious and crunchy and the acid was bright. 50% was placed in the 1 tonne open fermentors and the balanced was crushed and destemmed on top. Native yeast was allowed to kick off the ferment and selected, neutral yeast was then added around 8 baume to complete it. On skins for 3 weeks, pressed off and put to 2nd season french oak barrels. Racked after 14 months and bottled. No fining or filtration.

Tasting NOtes

New to the range, this is the only Primitivo grown in Clare Valley (that we know of). If you are after a wine that is soft, balanced, has lovely feathery tannins and all the flavour, then this is the wine for you. The whole bunch gives the wine a layer of crunch and tannin while the fruit gives the wine, lovely colour, strawberries, clove, hint of citrus and a refreshing mouthfeel. Pulling back on the alcohol by picking the fruit around 13.0 baume means the wine has amazing slurpability now. A definite ‘must’ to put in your glass.
